Craft, character and coastal living in this new Sumner build

Tuawera article in Homestyle Magazine.

Conceived as a renovation and addition, Tuawera slots a new two-level pavilion between an existing pool house and garage / studio, unifying the site into a cohesive architectural composition. A tactile mix of Lunawood timber cladding and coloured snap-lock metal panels defines the exterior — the warm timber grain softening the precision of the metal skin.

Extensive glazing and glass balustrades draw the panoramic views of Sumner and Pegasus Bay into the main living and bedroom spaces, while the roof form mimics the natural slope of the land, capturing western sunlight through the sheltered rear courtyard. The result invites volume and light into the family’s social hub, where intimate zones for work and media branch away, leaving the central living space open, connected and in constant dialogue with the outdoors, pool and terraces.
