I first approached Aaron about a house he had designed in Mt Pleasant, as I had always admired it. I was actually enquiring to see if the owners might consider selling it! Aaron kindly offered to show me through the home, which gave me the opportunity to see his approach to design firsthand.
I then showed him a section I had bought, which had a beautiful established garden and mature plantings, having never been built on. Aaron came up with a design that perfectly suited the site, my needs and my lifestyle. It was a design I would never have thought of myself — eye-catching, private, and carefully designed to capture the sun and light throughout the year.
The choice of materials was exceptional, and Aaron was also incredibly helpful in choosing the right builder. The builders were fantastic, we stayed within budget, and there were no delays. What I had expected to be a stressful and daunting first build turned out to be a seamless and genuinely enjoyable experience.
Aaron has created a one-of-a-kind home for me, and it is such a pleasure to live in and entertain in. If I ever build again, I wouldn’t hesitate to use Aaron and his team.
If you’re thinking about building, or are tempted to buy another generic new home, I’d highly recommend talking to Aaron first. Life’s too short to live in boring homes!

Aaron and Anne at Urbanfunction were a pleasure to deal with. They listened carefully to our brief and our ideas and produced a design well beyond our expectations. They were flexible, accommodating and extremely practical with their approach and we would recommend them to anyone considering a new build.

We cannot recommend Aaron and Urbanfunction highly enough. We engaged Aaron for his experience in the local area. He understood our brief immediately and provided us with an architectural plan that met our needs. We are overseas based so Aaron made the process seamless and also took the time to visit us overseas to understand what our design style was. Aaron treated the project like his own and went the extra mile for us. Urbanfunction have given us a home of our dreams, we still can’t believe how awesome the completed build is. Highly recommended and if we were to design another place Urbanfunction would be our first contact.

Taking on the restoration and renovation of this iconic building seemed daunting. We were unsure how we could take a building (effectively the original bank and an add-on addition) from an earthquake-damaged commercial build to a safe, functional and modern residence. Urbanfunction was the answer. Aaron and his team managed to wrestle with some pretty unique challenges, delivering us a design which changed this triangular shell into a beautiful, safe warm home and a standalone studio apartment with garden – while still paying homage to its heritage and story. Thank you Aaron for your professionalism, innovation and patience.
