Spencer Park - Surf Life Saving Club
This project was undertaken as a community project in collaboration with multiple consulting parties. This was a labour of love with the process extending over six years.
The project set out to demolish the existing concrete block ‘box’ and reconstruct an inspiring building for the expanding club, one that would respect the surrounding environment and sit lightly on the dunes.
It was imperative that the building function as a surf lifesaving club, providing the required view lines and service space, but also as a community space. The Spencerville Community Centre was lost in the 2011 earthquake, so the building needed to accommodate this function also. The result is a vibrant, welcoming space that enhances the daily life of its local community.
